After a long and arduous journey we have received the news we have been waiting for.
On Thursday 7th February 2013, Calderdale MBC agreed to transfer control of Luddenden Foot Civic Institute to Luddenden Foot Community Association (LCA). This guarantees the future for our existing users:-
- Luddenden Foot United Reformed Church
- 3rd Halifax (Luddendenfoot) Boys Brigade
- Luddenden Valley 0-5s Playgroup
- Luddenden Foot Womens Institute
- Calder 76 Football Team
- Hebden Royd Ladies Team
LCA will take over full management of the building initially on a 30 year basis commencing on 1st April 2013.
Much work will be required to make this building suitable to meet the needs of ALL members of our community here in Luddenden Foot. We have plans to spend approximately £750,000 to refurbish the building, which will include refurbished shower and changing facilities and will include shower and toilet facilities for physically disabled people, a café, museum of local interest, small library, office space/meeting room. The possibilities are endless but we can only achieve them if we get your support!
Our building is in great need of a thorough cleaning and to have small amounts of DIY and decorating in order to keep the premises open while major funding is obtained. Could you help by volunteering to do 2 hours per week? Please contact Heather Hartwell – 01422 885542.
The Asset Transfer of the Civic Institute will enable us to be able to apply to major funders:-
Awards for All, Tudor Trust, ‘Big lottery’ – reaching communities, this would enable us to achieve the refurbishment we have dreamed of for so long. We hope to have our revamped designs by late spring and we will invite you to a public consultation event.
Late last year we started a membership scheme and almost 50 people have signed up to this, we would very much appreciate your support in helping us to increase this and by doing so we will be able to show funders etc that we have the support of the community in Luddenden Foot. For further information regarding our membership scheme please contact our membership secretary:-
